I’m finally getting around to reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan. I’ve had several pondering moments, but in reading about a lukewarm Christian I had an interesting connection. A lukewarm person is one that focuses on this life and lives for this life, not often thinking about the life after – eternity.
Having just attended a friend’s wedding it put it into perspective for me. (In no way reflective of their relationship!) How often do people focus on finding the person and then planning the wedding? Do they seek to find a person with whom they can serve God better, or just not be alone? Do they plan the perfect wedding but forget that is just a day in their life but marriage is for the rest of their life?
In living this life am I focusing on this current life too much (i.e. planning a wedding) or am I focusing on eternity (i.e. preparing for marriage)? Am I focusing on God’s love and His plan that He has for me or worrying and wanting just His blessings and gifts instead of worshipping and bringing Him glory?
I hope it’s the latter, but I always see how I need to grow and never am satisfied with where I am – a good thing, you bet! – but I also need to focus on the positive and be enveloped in God’s love and focus on Him, not on me and what I want to be a part of His plan.
